About
Artsterz embodies the belief in the power of creativity and imagination through art, fostering a sense of humanity and the ability to take action for others. It is a summer camp operated by Kawaii Artists, an art school based in downtown New York. We primarily cater to children aged 4 to 12, encouraging them to actively learn communication, self-expression, and identity building through English and art. Our program emphasizes the importance of collaboration and problem-solving skills.
We have now started a junior counselor training program for local high school students, including native English speakers, bilingual students, and overseas students. This program facilitates interactions between local teens and children from Japan, providing valuable experience and fostering cross-cultural connections. It also serves as a great opportunity for internships, enhancing their skills while contributing to a meaningful cause.
Concept
One world
Empowering the Ability to Connect and Share with the World
Regardless of differences in language, cultural backgrounds, or gender, we are all human. As today's children grow into adults, they will likely inhabit a world that is increasingly borderless, becoming a generation that builds bridges across cultures.
With the advancement of technology, our modern era allows us to connect with the world effortlessly, making global engagement an everyday reality.
However, the importance of connecting in person remains invaluable. Face-to-face interactions foster deeper understanding and meaningful engagement s.
At Artsterz, we aim to nurture the ability to explore the world and share one's voice by play and cultural exchange.
Express yourself
Nurturing Respect for Others and Self-Expression
To achieve anything, collaboration with others is essential. Working together allows us to learn more and gain a greater sense of accomplishment than we could on our own. Creating an environment where collaboration thrives and involves understanding others. This includes recognizing our differences, supporting one another, and being open about our vulnerabilities.
In any relationship—whether between friends, parents and children, or across genders—a "relationship" naturally develops. In these dynamics, it's common for individuals to find themselves in different positions, which can lead to misunderstandings. However, through navigating conflicts and finding means for reconciliation, we cultivate respect for others and the ability to communicate our intentions clearly.
Particularly as Japanese individuals, we are often perceived as struggling with self-expression. At Artsterz, we foster the ability to express oneself by engaging with friends and teachers who have diverse perspectives. This environment encourages children to develop their own voices and express their thoughts confidently.

Creating Opportunities for Self-Discovery
To express ourselves accurately, it is essential to understand who we are. Without a solid foundation, self-expression lacks persuasion and fails to convey our true intentions. Knowing our strengths, interests, and what we are suited for from childhood is crucial.
Therefore, I hope both children and parents take the time to understand and explore the process of self-discovery together.
While some people embark on self-discovery as adults, this journey is something that should truly begin in childhood. At Artsterz, we strive to create opportunities for children to explore their identities through cross-cultural exchanges. By experiencing different environments, they can gain valuable insights and inspiration. I would be thrilled if these experiences could serve as seeds for future growth. How these seeds sprout and develop will be nurtured through their daily lives, and at Artsterz, we provide an environment that fosters this journey of self-understanding.
Where Ages Unite
The Benefits of Mixed-Age Summer Camps
Camping in mixed-age groups offers many benefits, including:
* Diverse perspectives: Participants of different ages bring a variety of perspectives and experiences, enriching discussions and learning opportunities.
* Mentorship opportunities: Older campers can mentor younger campers, sharing skills and knowledge, while younger campers can inspire creativity and innovation in their older peers.
* Enhanced social skills: Interacting with a wide range of ages helps campers develop better communication and social skills, and learn to build relationships with people at various life stages.
* Teamwork and cooperation: Group activities require collaboration among participants of all ages, fostering teamwork and problem-solving skills.
* Inclusive environment: Mixed-age groups create a sense of community where everyone feels valued, regardless of age, promoting inclusivity and acceptance.
* Valuable experiences: Campers gain unique experiences from each other, learning practical skills, cultural practices, and life lessons that they might not encounter in same-age settings.
* Promotion of cross-cultural exchange: Engaging with diverse groups fosters understanding and appreciation for different backgrounds, enhancing cultural awareness and empathy among participants.
Overall, camping in mixed-age groups not only enriches individual experiences but also strengthens community bonds and promotes lifelong skills.
